Superior Homes Kenya Plc, a property developer and the pioneers of the open plan gated community concept in the region has embarked on a new concept to ensure the elderly citizens are well cared for under their new project dubbed “Fadhili Retirement Village”.
The idea of Fadhili Retirement Village came about after the developer realized that the care options for the aged were limited as well as overwhelming. The project already broke ground and when completed will become Kenya’s first custom designed assisted living facility.
The development that has twelve complete houses will comprise of 41 self-contained individual bungalows that are designed to accommodate senior citizens with limited mobility, a medical center, a club house with common kitchen and library, well maintained gardens, a guard house and security wall.
The facility will be located in Green Park Estate, Athi River, about 30 kilometres from the city centre.
Dubbed Fadhili Care, the housing complex is designed to ensure their safety, security and well-being. In addition, they are designed to allow ease of movement and safety of the elderly occupants. Some of the key notable features include; fairly level site, with no steps or stairs. This will aid movement, for those walking as well as those with walking aids such as wheel chairs, wide doors to allow easy movement. They are very wide to allow for wheelchair movements and any other aid required and anti-slip floors; wooden in all living areas and tiled in wet areas.
Other notable features are large walk-in showers and toilet areas with sitting & mobility aid, larger built-in wardrobes that are easy to reach and easy to wide open/shut sliding windows.
The medical center will have skilled nurses and the residents are allowed to bring in their personal doctors. The services offered at the medical center will also include the administration of medication and supervision as well as emergency services.
There is also the advantage of companionship when living at the Village. While many old people often experience social isolation, Fadhili offers the elderly an opportunity to socialize with others of their own age as they mingle in the common amenities such as the library.
