Church to build gated complex in Karen area

A religious organisation is set to build a multi-million shilling sanctuary, community centre and, a rental estate comprising 198 units.

End Time Message Assembly says the gated complex will be on eight acres located between Gems Cambridge International School and Banda School on Magadi Road in Nairobi’s upmarket Karen.

Last Friday, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) invited comments from members of the public on the application.

The development will comprise the main church building with a ground floor sitting area as well as a first floor balcony with a sitting area and two offices. To effectively utilise space, an underground parking bay will be constructed under the sanctuary as well as two assembly halls and more cloakrooms.

The community centre will house a multipurpose hall, an office, cloakrooms and a security office on the ground floor.

The first floor will have a restaurant, a kitchen, a medical clinic, a fully equipped gym, changing rooms, while the second floor will be reserved for residential units.

On a different section of the property will be 33 blocks comprising six units of three-bedroomed housing units on each block’s ground, first and second floor.

“The proponent will sell/rent the housing units to the public which will earn the proponents an income while helping Kenya increase the number of decent housing units,” says the environmental report.
